What is a makerspace?
"A place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests, learn to use tools and materials, and develop creative projects." -The Unquiet Librarian "Makerspaces are collaborative learning environments where people come together to share materials and learn new skills." -MakerBridge "Makerspace, STEAM labs, and fab labs are popping up all over the country. Makerspaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build, and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering, and tinkering." What can I do? Just about anything your imagine can conjure! If you imagine it-- you can make it! Learn trades old and new. Explore circuitry with LittleBits, add to our Lego wall, practice origami, concoct an innovative invention with MaKeyMaKey, explore the complexity of Arduino, create stop motion animation shorts, build, code, and more! When can I use it? With scheduled classes, during SST (with permission from your advising teacher), and during specially allotted programming time. CMS' Makerspace is brand new, so please be patient while Ms. B smooths out scheduling needs, minor mayhem, and kinks. |
